The New England Patriots announced they have signed veteran running back Craig Reynolds to their practice squad on Friday.

In a corresponding move, the team also announced the release of running back Rushawn Baker.

The team has actively tried to improve its running back depth since being hit with the injury bug a few weeks back. They lost Antonio Gibson for the season due to an ACL injury, and Rhamondre Stevenson missed three games with a toe injury. Even Terrell Jennings was banged up at one point.

Both Stevenson and Jennings have returned to the lineup, but the Patriots could be looking to shore up their depth if they end up shifting to a more run-focused offensive attack late in the season. The team is expected to be without offensive tackle Will Campbell and guard Jared Wilson for Monday's game against the New York Giants. Not having two starting offensive linemen could limit the number of times they want quarterback Drake Maye dropping back to pass.

Reynolds is in his seventh NFL season after spending the last five with the Detroit Lions. He has appeared in seven games this season with nearly all of his work coming on special teams. As a rusher, he has 154 carries for 658 yards and one touchdown in his NFL career.
