It'll be a big day for Minnesotans across the state on Sunday when the Vikings travel to face the Seattle Seahawks, as Gopher alum Max Brosmer will make his NFL debut with the Vikings.

Starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy was officially ruled out for Sunday's contest as he is still in concussion protocol.

The former Michigan Wolverine has struggled heavily in his rookie season with the franchise that went 14-3 last season before being upended in the first round of the playoffs versus the Los Angeles Rams. McCarthy's most recent showing against the rival Packers was his worst, with the second half of the game rotating between him throwing interceptions and getting suplexed into the dirt.

For the Vikings at 4-7 in an uber-competitive NFC conference where teams with winning records are currently out of the playoff picture, eyes are shifting towards 2026. Brosmer, who played his final year of college ball at the University of Minnesota, was signed as an undrafted free agent in the offseason and came into the year as the third-string quarterback behind McCarthy and Carson Wentz. Wentz's season ended a few weeks ago following surgery to his non-throwing shoulder.

The rookie will face a difficult test in his debut, as the Seahawks come in with one of the best defenses in all of football. The Vikings' offensive line is also ravaged with injuries, as starters tackle Christian Darrisaw and guard Donovan Jackson are both questionable heading into Sunday's game following the pair not practicing on Wednesday.

Brosmer will be the 8th starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings since the start of the 2023 season. He joins the list of Kirk Cousins (8 games), Joshua Dobbs (4), Nick Mullens (3), Jaren Hall (2), Sam Darnold (18), Wentz (5), and McCarthy (5).
