ANAHEIM, Calif. – After a stellar stretch to open the season, the Anaheim Ducks will now be without their No. 1 goaltender and safety blanket for the next while.

Lukáš Dostál is out two-to-three weeks with an upper-body injury, the team announced before their Black Friday matinee match-up with the Los Angeles Kings.

The 25-year-old Czech netminder last played on Saturday in a 4-3 overtime win against Vegas and participated in practice on Tuesday. Dostál was not available for the morning skate on Tuesday and was initially ruled day-to-day before further evaluation.

The Ducks called up 30-year-old veteran Ville Husso from AHL San Diego on Wednesday. Husso backed up Petr Mrázek on Wednesday and got the start against the Kings on Friday.

Husso recorded three shutouts in 13 starts with the AHL Gulls with a 6-4-3 record, 2.49 goals against average and .908 save percentage.

Mrázek is 3-3-0 in six starts for the Ducks with a 3.69 goals against average and .881 save percentage. Mrázek allowed 11 goals in his first two starts (5.5 per game) but just 11 goals in his last four starts (2.75 per game).

Despite Anaheim’s best start in a decade, Dostál has seen his fair share of rubber early in the season, with the Ducks 5th worst in the league in expected goals against at five-on-five, and both Husso and Mrazek will need to be sharp to keep the Ducks roll going.

Dostál signed a five-year, $32.5 million contract in the offseason, and in tandem with the Ducks trade of John Gibson to Detroit for Mrázek, Dostál became locked in as Anaheim’s No. 1 netminder going into this season.

However, Dostál has been near elite in his 17 starts in 23 games for the Ducks with a 11-5-1 record, tied for second-most wins in the NHL this season.

His 2.81 goals against average would be the best in his five years and four full seasons with Anaheim, and his .904 save percentage would be his best in a full season with the Ducks. Dostál is also 10th in goals saved above expected, per MoneyPuck.

With just over 70 days until the Winter Olympics in Milan, Dostál was one of the six preliminary selections to the Czechia national team roster, along with Ducks captain Radko Gudas.

Dostál should be set to return just before the Christmas break.
