Hornet in Hollow Knight: Silksong fighting a white boss.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is a dizzyingly expansive game, but by the sounds of it, developer Team Cherry isn't done yet. After spending seven years on Silksong's development, it's hard to imagine what could still be left for the game. While there are no concrete details yet, a new interview offers a tantalizing tease.
In an interview with Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Team Cherry co-director Ari Gibson notes that the team is "looking at [...] what else can be brought to the experience and how that world can expand." While some future updates could just be tweaks, Gibson says that Team Cherry is "thinking about different things arriving at different scales", which "might mean larger things like Godmaster" (the final free DLC for the first Hollow Knight).

Finding A Tricky Balance

Nothing in the interview guarantees that Silksong will receive full-scale DLC, but it does confirm that Team Cherry is considering it. Beyond that, Gibson and co-director William Pellen remain mostly coy, but Pellen suggests that they'll "start talking about it more soon."
When new content does come, it might not even be obvious to those who aren't familiar with the game's intricacies. Gibson mentions the difficulty of "working out how you expand an already huge game" without overwhelming newcomers, which "might mean finding ways to hide away the access." This sounds similar to the approach taken by FromSoft games — Elden Ring, for example, hides access to the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion behind an optional boss fight that's easy to miss.
Team Cherry Wants To Move Beyond Hollow Knight
More Worlds To Explore

Despite loving Silksong, I'm not hankering for DLC any time soon. I've seen the credits roll, but there's still plenty of content in Silksong that I haven't yet experienced, so I'm happy to let Team Cherry take its time. After seven years of waiting for Silksong, any interval that passes before DLC will feel like no time at all.
After finishing up Silksong additions, Gibson and Pellen suggest that Team Cherry will eventually move on to other games. While the studio doesn't rule out returning to Hollow Knight — Gibson claims that making another one right now would be a "joy" — they "don't want to be exclusively people that make Hollow Knight."
For now, the gist is this: More Silksong is coming, we don't know what it is, and Team Cherry wants to make more games in other settings in the future. All of that sounds great to me. The eternal wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong may finally be over, but Team Cherry's story certainly isn't.
