Netflix subscribers will soon have access to (most of) the Kung Fu Panda franchise. Kicking off in 2008, Kung Fu Panda remains one of DreamWorks' best movies, about a clumsy panda who dreams of becoming a kung fu warrior, laughed at by the most skilled warriors when he gets a chance to do just that, while time is running out as an old evil approaches their home.

The recurring main cast of Kung Fu Panda includes Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, David Cross, and James Hong. 2011's Kung Fu Panda 2 added Gary Oldman as the new villain, one who forces Po to discover the truth about his past while defeating this adversary. The franchise also features Ian McShane, Michelle Yeoh, Bryan Cranston, and more.

Per What's on Netflix, Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2, and 2016's Kung Fu Panda 3 will all be on Netflix from December 1. After Kung Fu Panda 2's ending established that Po's biological father and a community of pandas survived Shen's attack, the third installment sees Po meeting the other pandas amid a more supernatural threat than past outings.

Kung Fu Panda 4 also came out in 2024 (not joining the other movies on Netflix in December 2025), which sidelined much of the old recurring cast in favor of franchise newcomer Awkwafina's role. However, for those who consider this latest entry to be the worst of the Kung Fu Panda movies, Netflix's upcoming release of the original trilogy may be more than enough overview of the series.

Kung Fu Panda's reception has declined over the years, with the feeling that the story is being stretched out and the shifting conditions of the box office. The first two movies were also nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, but not the follow-ups. Overall, it's a successful and beloved franchise, with its lowest Rotten Tomatoes score being 71% (for No. 4).

The Kung Fu Panda movies have also grossed $2.3 billion worldwide to date, with only Shrek outranking its franchise gross among DreamWorks' properties. It is currently unknown if DreamWorks will continue the Kung Fu Panda series (while Shrek 5 is slated for 2027), but the spinoff TV show Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight is also available on Netflix.

However, the original Kung Fu Panda trilogy coming to Netflix is a treat all on its own. The three movies tell a complete story about Po coming into his own as a formidable kung fu warrior, despite and because the ways he learns and fights are different from the setting's other heroes. Thus, Netflix subscribers may revisit these comforting adventure movies during the holidays.
