Head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Friday afternoon that cornerback Jaycee Horn is not expected to play in the team's Week 13 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The Pro Bowl defender sustained a concussion in Monday night's 20-9 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and was a non-participant in practice throughout the week.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHis absence will likely be felt against quarterback Matthew Stafford and the Rams, who are averaging the fifth-most passing yards per game (248.4) in the NFL. Prior to his early exit in Week 12, Horn recorded a pair of interceptions—bringing his league-leading and career-high total to five on the campaign.
Canales added that 2024 fifth-round pick Chau Smith-Wade and fourth-year veteran Akayleb Evans will take up reps at corner in place of Horn.
Carolina's defense will also be without inside linebackers Christian Rozeboom (hip/hamstring) and Claudin Cherelus (concussion) as well as safety Tre'von Moehrig—who is set to serve a one-game suspension for his low blow of 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings.
