All nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother will be leaving the streaming giant on December 3, 2025, which means now will be the last time for you to binge this iconic TV series. The show first aired in 2005 and was nominated for numerous awards throughout its run. How I Met Your Mother follows Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), an architect from New York, as he tells his kids the story of how he met their mother.
Throughout the nine seasons, the series centered on Ted's time in New York and his various love interests before he met his future wife, Tracy (Cristin Milioti). How I Met Your Mother was praised by fans and critics alike, earning an 84% critic score and an 85% audience score, despite its notoriously controversial series finale. Additionally, Neil Patrick Harris, who played Ted's womanizing best friend, Barney Stinson, was nominated for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series" four times at the Primetime Emmy Awards and won numerous accolades at the Primetime Creative Emmy Awards.
Years after How I Met Your Mother ended, a spin-off series called How I Met Your Father premiered in 2022. The show starred Hilary Duff as Sophie Tompkins, a hopeless romantic looking for her soulmate. The spin-off had references to and Easter Eggs from the original show, as well as appearances from previous characters. Unfortunately, the show was canceled after two seasons.

If you're looking for shows like How I Met Your Mother, fortunately, some sitcoms follow a similar premise. One notable example is Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004. Also set in New York, it follows a group of friends as they live their everyday lives and navigate a will-they-wont-they romance. All 10 seasons are available to stream on HBO Max.
Another sitcom worth considering is The Big Bang Theory, where, just like How I Met Your Mother, it also follows a group of friends, but this time, they're geeky and awkward scientists, who become friends with an aspiring actress who lives next door. Unlike How I Met Your Mother, whose spin-off was cancelled, The Big Bang Theory franchise has found such massive success that it now has two spin-off shows, Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, and a third one is currently in development.
How I Met Your Mother is available to stream on Netflix until December 3.
