For the final time this season, the Hawkeyes are set to take the field in a regular season matchup as they head to Lincoln to face off with the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the annual Heroes game!
Both teams enter the day at 7-4 overall, but bowl pecking order is on the line, as well as pride, bragging rights and another trophy for the trophy case back home. For the Huskers, though, this game represents a chance for their first home win over Iowa since their first year as members of the Big Ten Conference back in 2011.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementTo get that coveted win, though, they’ll have to crack an Iowa defense that is built to stop the run and create turnovers. The Huskers are starting a freshman QB making just his third career start in TJ Lateef. Will Phil Parker be able to bait him into some mistakes that could set up the Iowa offense for easy scores? Or will the Huskers be able to lean on their star RB Emmett Johnson, the nation’s #4 leading rusher to generate enough offense to get a win?
And on the other side of the ball, will Iowa be able to do the same? The Huskers boast the #2 passing defense in the nation, while the Hawkeyes have struggled throwing the ball all year. Can Tim Lester and Mark Gronowski do enough to keep the Hawks on top for a third straight year?
We’ll have our answers soon enough as the Hawkeyes and Huskers face off in Memorial Stadium in Lincoln!
