Ole Miss comes off a bye after beating visiting Florida 34-24 on Nov. 15. Florida is one of two rival SEC programs rumored to be in the hunt to pluck Kiffin from Oxford, with LSU being the other. The Rebels need help to reach their first Southeastern Conference championship game. At 6-1 in the SEC, Ole Miss needs to beat Mississippi State and get losses on Saturday from Texas A&M and Alabama. Kewan Lacy fuels the offense for the Rebels, coming in with 1,136 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, while Trinidad Chambliss has thrown for 2,657 yards and 14 scores with only three interceptions. Chambliss also has 444 yards and six TDs on the ground. Harrison Wallace III leads the receivers with 42 catches and 647 yards, while Dae’quan Wright has four touchdown grabs. Wydett Williams Jr. tops the defense with three interceptions.
Mississippi State needs a win to become bowl eligible and has lost its last two contests, including a 49-27 loss at Missouri on Nov. 15. Blake Shapen leads the offense with 2,431 yards and 15 touchdown passes against eight interceptions, with Fluff Bothwell (559 yards and six scores) and Davon Booth (546 yards and seven TDs) powering the ground attack. Anthony Evans III has 63 catches for 751 yards and four touchdowns, while Brenen Thompson checks in with 47 receptions, 868 yards, and six scores. Brylan Lanier has three interceptions on the other side of the ball, while Kelley Jones has broken up 11 passes.
Ole Miss leads the Egg Bowl series 66-47-6, with wins in 2012 and 2014 vacated by the NCAA. The Rebels have won the last two years, including a 26-14 home victory on Nov. 29.
